How to Choose the Best Estate Agent in Bicester

IMS Property Michelle niziol and team

Search for “best estate agent in Bicester” and you’ll find every agency in town claiming the title. It’s an easy line to write and an easy one to ignore – so here’s a more useful question: what actually separates a genuinely good agent from one that just says so?

Three things are worth checking before you hand anyone the keys to your sale: independently verified reviews, awards judged by someone other than the agent themselves, and a track record you can hold them to.

Start with verified reviews, not just a star rating

Almost any agent can put “5 stars” in their marketing. What matters is where that rating comes from and how many people it’s based on. Platforms like Google and Trustpilot verify reviewers and can’t be edited by the business, which makes them a far more reliable signal than testimonials picked and published on an agent’s own website.

It’s also worth reading a handful of the actual reviews rather than just the score. Detailed reviews that name a specific person, describe the sale or letting process, and were left recently tell you far more than a generic five-star tally.

For context, IMS Property Group currently holds a 5.0-star average from 400+ verified Google reviews, alongside reviews on Trustpilot worth a read regardless of who you end up choosing, simply as a benchmark for what “good” looks like locally.

Look for awards judged by someone other than the agent

Industry awards are only meaningful when the judging is independent of the agent entering. The ESTAS, the UK’s largest awards scheme for the residential property industry, is a good example: winners are decided purely on verified client reviews submitted over a 12-month period, not a marketing submission. A “Best in Postcode” win specifically reflects sustained, real feedback from people who actually bought, sold or let through that agent.

IMS has picked up ESTAS Best in Postcode awards for customer service in recognition of that kind of consistent client feedback. Founder Michelle Niziol has also been recognised individually, named Female Entrepreneur of the Year at the UK Small Business Awards 2025 and awarded the Family Business Award (South East) at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, competing against thousands of entries nationally. You can read more about her background, including her ARLA Propertymark Vice Presidency and regular commentary in the property press, on the Michelle Niziol page.

Check the accreditation, not just the branding

Two things worth confirming with any Bicester agent: are they Propertymark accredited (the industry body’s professional standards scheme), and if they also offer mortgage advice, are they FCA regulated? Neither guarantees great service on its own, but their absence is a red flag.

Ask about track record, not promises

“We’ll get you the best price” is easy to say. What’s harder to fake is a consistent percentage of asking price achieved, and whether an agent genuinely covers the whole town – historic centre, newer developments like Graven Hill and Kingsmere, and the surrounding villages – rather than just the postcode around their office. IMS’s current figures and full coverage area are set out on the Bicester estate agents page, including the team you’d actually be working with from valuation through to completion.

The short version

Before you choose, check: independently verified reviews (not just a number), awards judged on client feedback rather than self-nomination, proper accreditation, and a track record the agent can actually show you. Any agent confident in their service should be happy to point you to all four.
